What are we doing right now?
Because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak we were forced to terminate our work for food deserts in San Pedro but that doesn't mean we will stop striving towards our goal to help provide socieoeconomic challenged families the fresh food they should receive. Right now we want to raise awareness about the Gaffey Street Garden to inform families in San Pedro that in the future there is a way to obtain fresh produce. The Gaffey Street Garden is a garden located in San Pedro that you can rent out plots of land to plant produce. We made a planting guide for the Gaffey Garden you can find here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NHMaJSRR0ELlEN7aBk_cAKv9TJeYPZsRXjUZ_9fCemY/edit

What are we going to do in the future?
In the future our group wants people to consider donating, spread our cause to their neighborhoods, or just helping out at their local community garden. Everything helps combat one of America's largest problems, lack of fresh food or just food in general. We want people to consider donating to us (anything helps!) so we can buy plots at the Gaffey Garden and restore our partnership with Crestwood Elementary School. Crestwood Elementary School would then be able to use our plots of land to teach their students gardening and the importance of fresh nutritious food. We want people to spread the importance of combating food deserts because people that lack fresh nutritious foods are more vulnerable to chronic illnesses, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension and even premature death. Another thing to consider is helping out at your local garden. Helping out at your local garden is a great way to help people get fresh produce but also a great way for families to spend time together and exercise after being couped up for so long.
